We have just ordered all new North 2012 ICE wave sails and the new HERO wave sails to replace all our 2011 sails 6.2m and below. The first centre in the UK you can use the new 2012 North sails.

Because we want you love us even more we also have a new 2012 Fanatic Twin 86 wave board, New 2012 Hawk 135, New 95 Freewave and a 2012 10 foot and 11'6 SUP to add to our already extensive range of 2011 kits.

We are also pleased to welcome long time lagoon members and sailor from Hove Ryan Humphrey aboard as a official Lagoon Watersports Team rider. Look out for him on his new Fanatic Quad and Hero wave sails.

‘Go with the FLOW: For Female Cancer Care’ will take place on Saturday 24th September 2011, at Hove Lagoon Watersports www.hovelagoon.co.uk and will include a morning yoga with waterwoman and health guru Caroline Radway www.fitbodyfix.com , learn to windsurf, wake board and SUP sessions from female instructors, intermediate and advanced windsurfing coaching from FLOW’s top Hunk Sam Ross www.sam-ross.co.uk , demo equipment, music, cakes, a movie and more!

The highlight of the day is set to be the ‘Blast 4 Breast Cancer’ where all the ladies will hit the water, for a team relay race, with legs on both the lagoon and sea. You can enter as a Team of 4, or enter as an individual/pair and we will put you in touch with potential team mates. We are encouraging teams to use the Blast as a fundraising opportunity, getting your friends/family to show their support for your team through sponsorship which will be donated directly to Breast Cancer Care and Cancer Research UK ovarian cancer projects by W4CR. Don’t worry guys you can be involved too! We are more than happy to welcome watermen along that support the fairer sex, you can enter and take part in many of the activities available on the day. We are keeping all coaching sessions for ladies only, however you can soak up the atmosphere, hit the water, eat cake and even enter the ‘Blast 4 Breast Cancer’, if you have a penchant for pink and a blonde wig that is!

What is FLOW?

FLOW is an organisation set up in June 2010 by former professional windsurfer, coach and personal trainer, Amy Carter. FLOW aims to unite females in windsurfing, SUP, wakeboarding, etc to share our knowledge and passion for the water, as well as pushing the message that these often male dominated sports are fantastic for women too. Offline Amy delivers watersports events and coaching, combining with her work as a personal trainer, Amy concentrates on conveying the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle, enabling women to make positive changes in lives, and increasing the opportunities for ladies to be active participants in watersports, particularly windsurfing.

What is W4CR?

FUNDING RESEARCH, SUPPORTING CANCER CARE AND EDUCATION > Windsurfing4CancerResearch (‘W4CR’) was set up as a registered Charity by windsurfer David Tuttlebee in March 2009 to increase awareness of cancer and funding research, supporting cancer care and education. Since 2009 W4CR has raised over £120,000 from fundraising charity events. The beneficiaries have been Cancer Research UK (Bowel and Skin cancer projects), Breast Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Care, Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, John Hartson Foundation and other hospices.

FREE Ant Baker Windsurf training clinic at Hove Lagoon

This is great opportunity to get some free coaching from one of the counties top windsurfers and coaches.

You don't have to be a hot shot windsurfer to benefit from this clinic. Ant will run through the basic skills required and even if you feel some of the moves are a bit advanced for you will learn loads. The ideal skill level would be planing in foot straps and most importantly keen to learn and up for it.

Lagoon Watersports will have a strong presence at what is billed as ‘Europe’s biggest free water sports festival’ on 2-3 July 2011.

Yacht sailing and windsurf tasters for £5

The Lagoon Watersports team will have a stand on Hove Lawns offering professional advice about anything water sports related and they will also give you the opportunity to try windsurfing and yacht sailing at the event. The taster sessions are aimed at beginners and cost £5 with all monies going to the nominated Paddle Round The Pier charities The RNLI, the Teenage Cancer Trust and Surf Relief. Wakeboarding for kids comes to Hove Lagoon, Brighton! We are pleased to be the venue for the first cable wakeboarding park on the south coast. Our System 2.0 cable system is perfect for kids to learn to wakeboard. What is it ? Wakeboarding is a bit like skateboarding on water. Have a look at the video below. Course dates and details can be found below.

We have run a few kids courses now and got a formula that works well. Courses are run as 2 x 2 hour sessions . They are suitable for kids age 10 plus and once completed most kids will then be able to ride the cable on any of our 1 hour ride sessions. Due to all the other activities on the Lagoon in the summer holidays we can only offer the kids wakeboarding from 5pm on weekdays.

Sailability sailing in brighton goes down a storm at Hove Lagoon

In a project funded by Active Sussex, 30 disabled adults from Brighton & Hove gott the opportunity to learn to sail on the sheltered water of Hove Lagoon this summer. The project is delivered in partnership with Lagoon Watersports and Brighton & Hove City Council.

Three groups of ten adults with learning difficulties took place in the sessions which proved to be very successful, with lots of smiley faces and all the students being able to take the helm of their own boats by the end of the course.

On day one the students were greeted with cloudy blustery conditions, and the instructors took advantage of this by giving all the students joy rides to familiarise themselves with the boats and the various parts. By day two the students were sailing in the boats on their own and learning what to do in a capsize situation!

Lead instructor Rachel Cockle “It’s a fantastic project to be part of. The guys at Grace Eyre and St Johns College are great and it’s been a pleasure working with them to get them on the water. Sailing is a fun and enjoyable sport that should be enjoyed by everyone, Hove Lagoon is a perfect place to learn as it’s such a safe and secure learning environment.”

"At the end of the sessions all the participants have the opportunity to join Sussex Yacht Club as part of their Sailability program.

I wanted to say a massive thank you on behalf of Grace Eyre for the sailing lessons which were a huge hit with the people who accessed them. Please also thank the instructors, our staff and service users said they were absolutely brilliant and incredibly helpful and knowledgable.

All the people who completed the course were incredibly proud of their achievements and clearly had a fantastic time, it's been the talk of the centre for weeks and they're asking for more watersports!

Thanks again for the opportunity, St Johns also got a lot out of the sessions. It's had a big impact on those involved in terms of confidence and they had a lot of fun."

I just wanted to thank you so much to you and your staff for providing St. John's learners with such a valuable and memorable experience.

Your staff, Rachel, Junior and Georgie, were brilliant with the group! As I said to Katie at Grace Eyre, both learners and staff returned saying it was the best day they'd had at St. John's! They are all up for doing it again some time.

Wakeboarding contest in Brighton

Wake Up Brighton, the first system 2.0 cable system on the South Coast based at Hove Lagoon, is pleased to report that its first amateur wakeboarding contest sponsored by ION Essentials and supported by Red Bull was a huge success.

The contest on Saturday 14^th May was full with fifteen amateur wakeboarders signed up for the start of the heats at 4 pm. After a few action-packed hours the contest was won by local sailing instructor John Yeomans with Benny Castilo coming 2^nd and 3^rd place going to Scott Topham. Check out the two videos.

Pro riders were taking to the water as well to show off their skills, including 5x World Kitesurfing Champion Aaron Hadlow, 4x British Kitesurfing Champion Lewis Crathern and Zach Single. The Uniwake Crew from Sussex University was also gathering at Hove Lagoon to show their support for the event and to perform some tricks and jumps in front of the crowds.

Harvey Dawkins from Lagoon Watersports said: “We are so glad that the forecasted thundery showers didn’t materialise on Saturday afternoon! There were lots of happy faces around Hove Lagoon, I would like to thank all thepro riders, contestants and sponsors for their involvement and for making it such a great event. A special thank you goes to Rachel Cockle for driving the System 2.0 for the riders.”
